Poppy Appeal's 90th anniversary celebrated
NINETY years of the Poppy Appeal were marked with a party held by the Royal British Legion at the weekend.
The town's branch of the Royal British Legion and Rugby Army Cadets combined to hold the poppy party at the legion's Edward Street headquarters on Saturday (June 11).
Fun activities including an inflatable assault course, water gun arena, sumo wrestling and five-a-side football were on offer to keep youngsters entertained, with a disco held in the evening.
Legion members held the event to raise money for the Poppy Appeal.
Ian Boulter, chairman of Rugby No 1 branch, said: “The 90th year of the Poppy Appeal is a really big deal, and with our armed forces engaged in current conflicts, this is a charity that has a long history but is as important as ever.
