I'll be the first to admit, or a mixture of Chex is not really my idea of cooking, but I can say, children love them. Not only are they fun to eat, but they are also fun to prepare.
We saw the recipe for Snickerdoodle Mix on the side of a box and decided to give it a try. My four years have added pop the popcorn and mix cinnamon and sugar. Help prepare simple, gluten-free snacks is a great way to introduce children to cooking. And after several weeks of more complicated recipes that my teenager has helped to prepare this simple Chex Mix is the perfect recipe Kids Cook Monday for my preschooler.
The original recipe was Chocolate Chex, although I think they would be more the taste of chocolate without the Snickerdoodles. I think next time I will replace the chocolate with Chex Rice Chex Chex or other gluten-free.
Chex Mix Snickerdoodle
The original recipe gave instructions to microwave, but I baked in the oven.
Cup sugar 1 / 4 1 teaspoon cinnamon 2 cups Chex cereal cinnamon 2 cups Chex cereal chocolate 4 cups of popcorn (about 1 / 4 cup popcorn kernals) butter 1 / 4 cup, melted Preheat oven to 350. In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon and stir to blend (We did this step while the popcorn was popping). In a large bowl, combine cereals and popped popcorn. Pour melted butter over mixture and stir to coat evenly, then pour cinnamon-sugar mixture on top and stir to evenly distribute. Pour mixture onto greased rimmed baking sheet or 9×13 pan and bake in preheated oven for about 10 minutes or until heated through.
