The Republican's Spring All-Scholastics: Softball

The Republican has chosen high school all-star teams since 1919, beginning with " All-City" teams. All-Western Massachusetts teams were first published in 1933, and Spring 2011 marks the 30th publication of All- Scholastic and All-Academic teams. The Republican All- Scholastic teams, published after the end of each season, recognize the outstanding achievement in each sport; The Republican All-Academic Sports Team, published in conjunction with the All- Scholastic selections, honors outstanding classroom achievement by seniors who maintained varsity status during the previous athletic season. Teams were chosen by staff writers after input from coaches.

SOFTBALL

KATIE ALBRIGHT, Westfield: Senior outfielder had 29 hits and 19 RBIs to lead the Bombers into the Western Massachusetts Division I tournament; outstanding defensive outfielder with strong, accurate throwing arm, currently in Colorado Springs doing basic training at the United States Air Force Academy; National Honor Society; ranked 10th in her class.

EMMA AYRES, Amherst: Senior first baseman was one of the Hurricanes' leaders and helped them win their second straight Western Massachusetts Division I championship; team captain; batted .289 with 15 RBIs and one home run; delivered several clutch hits; was the undeniable sparkplug for the team; great spirit, enthusiasm and positive energy.

AMANDA BUTLER, West Springfield: Senior outfielder hit .389 with 22 runs, 28 hits; had nine doubles, one triple, one home run and 13 RBIs; three-year varsity starter and winner of the 2011 Deke Pillsbury Award; had three hits in a win over Westfield; soccer captain, runs tracks; pro merito; will attend Southern New Hampshire University and study Culinary Management.

DANIELLE CIRCOSTA, Agawam: Junior went 6-1 with a 0.83 ERA; struck out 50 batters in 42 innings; only allowed five earned runs; best game was a two-hit shutout against Amherst; pitched well in the tournament despite a wrist injury; National Honor Society; volunteer for the Sacred Heart Athletic Association and Agawam Basketball Athletic Associaton.

JESS COLSON, Agawam: Junior teamed with Danielle Circosta to form a dynamic pitching duo for the Brownies; pitched five shutout innings in game against Amherst, but was not involved in the decision; fashioned a 9-4 record with a 1.24 ERA; struck out 98 batters in 90 innings and pitched six shutouts.

CADY DEARY, Longmeadow: Junior captain is a three-year starter for the Lancers at third base; outstanding fielder and team leader; best game came in a loss to Northampton when she had a triple, double and single; outstanding volleyball player, she set the school record for number of digs in a game as a sophomore; basketball player.

We noticed Carolina Springs Academy still has their Web Sites up and running .  The Campus is today growing up in weeds and abandoned . Most of the therapeutic Animals , (Horses , Sheep , etc) died a horrible death of starvation when the place was abandoned in 2010 .It was purported to be a place that helped troubled youth . A lot of really naive folks fell for this flim -flam . Do not send money to these folks ., Send it to the Humane society that managed to rescue a few , very few , of the poor critters found there.  The local solicitor claimed he was trying to find who was responsible for that and   bring appropriate charges , but he never has .
