Union County's Mobile Document-Shredding Program will visit Scotch Plains, June 25

The Council of the Union County freeholders elected today announced that its next mobile paper shredding personal documents for the program will be available on Saturday, June 25, at Union County Vo-Tech in Scotch Plains.

"Union County mobile document-shredding service helps people eliminate clutter in their homes and also fight identity theft," said Freeholder Deborah P. President Scanlon. "This is a cost effective way to help our recycling efforts and links with our other initiatives going green."

The shredding event will be held June 25 in the parking lot of Union County Vocational and Technical School, 1776 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains. NEXCUT shredding of Teaneck will be shredding of documents on the website of 9:00 to 1:00 p.m., rain or shine. The event will end before 13 hours if the shredding truck reaches capacity shredding.

All residents of Union County are authorized to use the paper shredding service. In an effort to accommodate all participants, there is a limit of four, 10-pound bags or boxes per person. Documents should not be linked. Please remove plastic binders and paperclips.Residents should continue to recycle non-confidential papers and magazines with their municipal recycling program.

The documents are put in 96 gallons containers provided by the shredding company. The items are then dumped onto a conveyor belt and put through the mill. Participants are invited to view the shredding process via a closed circuit television. The shredded documents are then recycled, shipped to paper mills and used as pulp. The shredding event will take place next Saturday, August 13, on the campus of Kean University, 1000 Morris Ave. Union.

The mobile shredding program is paid by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Improvement Fund Recycling Grant Act.
