Sega Pocket Power Toys - News
The problem isn't so much that it's badly designed (although why they moved the power switch to where the start button was located, I'll never know), but more that it looks like a children's toy - even in the fetching blue-green colour.
oNe BIT To Rule Them All !: System Review: "SEGA Mega Drive Gopher"
You know, I'm not a console fanboy. I don't care about Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo, even though most of my systems are of the Playstation brand (because they get Metal Gear Solid ) and I do have a soft for Nintendo, because it's the last company that's exclusive a games company ( the DS is the only system I've bought that didn't have the promise of a Metal Gear title). But I used to be a fanboy once; when I was a kid! I was a SEGA fanboy! I still am, kind of, actually. Sure, the company kind of sucks now; they can't make a decent Sonic title to save their lives and even though most of their other games are decent, they're still not as spectacular as a company of their stature and history would have one expect. SEGA stopped making consoles after the wonderful-but-ill-fated SEGA Dreamcast, which is a pity. Save for the ridiculous add-ons to the Genesis, like CD and 32x, their systems have been consistently good (whether they were better than their main competitor, Nintendo, remains a hot topic of discussion, but they were good systems nonetheless). Since they stopped making game systems, they've been remaking the Mega Drive (or Genesis) over and over and over, in the form of controllers with built-in memory and a few games or re-releasing the games in special collections for contemporary consoles, as well as the PSN, Steam and XBLA and whatnot. But other companies have jumped on the bandwagon and started doing the same. Mock-consoles are nothing new; I myself had one of those, that looked like a portable CD player when I was a kid and so did a very close friend of mine (hers looked like a N64). All of those consoles, with their flashy packaging and unlicensed, mock-names were clones of the NES with hundreds of games in their built-in memory. But technology progressed and gaming became a huge industry, so those consoles are no more (you can still find them, but why would you want them?) Now bigger, more serious companies get to remake old systems one way or the other (it's questionable whether or not they are actually licensed) and while they are hard to find (many have to import them), they're solid work. One of those systems is the "Mega Drive Gopher" (yes, it's actually called MEGA DRIVE-- EAT THAT YANKS), made by AT Games, a Chinese company. As I said, it's hard to tell if these systems are actually licensed by SEGA, but let me clear this up for you: the Gopher is very much licensed by the SEGA Corporation.
