Head of Democratic governors group here to raise money, talk with Quinn, dis ...

America’s Democratic governors like Pat Quinn a lot more than they liked Illinois’ last Democratic governor.

Rod Blagojevich “did not participate in anything the Democratic Governors Association did,” Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, the association’s new chair, said Tuesday at Goose Island Wrigleyville before watching the Cubs-Brewers game as Quinn’s guest.

O’Malley, North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue and others are in Chicago for a fund-raiser and policy session as they try to prevent a repeat of the last election that saw the number of Democratic governors slashed from 29 to 20.

“When I came into the DGA, I said, ‘How come we got a blank here in Illinois when we have a Democratic governor?’ They said, ‘Stay away from him. Leave him alone.’ This was four years ago. Even when we had a DGA event in Chicago he did not attend,” O’Malley said of Blagojevich.

By contrast, Quinn’s narrow victory in November was a bright spot for the Democrats. Quinn agreed to serve as the DGA’s finance chair, helping raise money for this year’s fights to elect Democratic governors in Kentucky, West Virginia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. O’Malley’s more optimistic about the first two, he said.

They also admire the way Quinn grabbed up federal high-speed rail dollars rejected by the Republican governors of Wisconsin and Florida.

“Gov. Quinn has been a superstar for us because of the way he picked up the high speed rail dollars on the bounce from Florida,” O’Malley said.

O’Malley, 48, who played lead guitar in an Irish-American music group, is a rising star in Democratic politics. Could 2016 see him and Mayor Rahm Emanuel competing in the Democratic primary for president?

“You’ll never see that 2016 match-up because mayors never run for president,” O’Malley smiled, waving the issue away the same way Emanuel has brushed off questions about any post-Obama presidential ambitions he may have.

O’Malley is in a similar position to Quinn in one respect. He campaigned as an opponent of casinos now facing mounting pressure to allow them into his state or cut his budget deeper.

“There are some in the Legislature, I’m sure, as we come up on what will be the fourth year of brutal cuts to everything including core priorities who will say it’s better than cutting those cite priorities,” he said.

Homosexuality was accepted and practiced openly during the Roman Era...which is what most of us here draw roots as a "real civilization". It was when the Christians and Abrahamic religions took over that being gay started to be "outlawed". Prolly has to do a lot with the fact that the "kings" needed subjects to draw loyal warriors and peasants from to keep their land, etc...especially since major factions killed eachother all the time. Nevertheless, what you are experiencing is the remnance of Christianity's "being fruitful and multiply" efforts. It may take a while for "new thought processes" to reach "the conservatives" out there, but it will get there as these religions start to have less and less control over people's behaviors and even start to die out as we all enter the modern world. Much of what we believe in to "keep the land" in modern times involves more of a faith in "Capitalism" than faith in "God". And you are right that "gay couples can raise children" too these days with modern technology, but the underlying requirement as with any successful family, is your capitalistic faith and success in it (read: money). But I think that since the US takes much of the brunt of world military efforts, there will still be a need for a large sector of ppl who will sacrifice themselves to "go to heaven". It's no wonder that the USA, although most advanced of the Western world, has the most religious ppl. Which is why "Don't ask, don't tell" has persisted in the military for ages. But I think as we roboticize more warfare in the future, there won't be as much of a need to make religious kids willingly act as cannon fodder so the Military might be more open to gays. Afterall, an extra person in front of a joystick is just as good as an extra person in front of a cash register...regardless of sexual preference. ;) Insurance covers a phone that has been lost, dropped, stolen, dropped in the toilet, any sort of physical or water damage! You say competition is tough... implying that there are a multitude of capable actors. i.e. Supply is high.
