Data protection in government: a sensitive subject
The Information Commissioner has started to use the powers granted to him in the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 came into force in April 2010. This allows the commissioner to impose fines of up to £ 500,000 for violations of the Act on Data Protection by organizations or data controllers. The first fines were for some time to come and November 2010, it fined Hertfordshire County Council £ 100,000 and an employment business named AE4 £ 60,000 for breach of data protection. In February of this year, the Commissioner fined London Boroughs of Hounslow and Ealing £ 80,000 and £ 70,000 respectively. In the case of three fines, those related to the loss of unencrypted laptops, and in the case of Hertfordshire, the fine was in relation to sensitive personal data being sent to the wrong address by fax, two separate occasions. A glance down the list of companies on the website of the Commissioner, signed by leaders of offending the authorities with data breaches do not justify a fine, says that apart from laptops unencrypted unencrypted memory sticks are another security risk. The rise of mobile working and the increase in the use of mobile devices increased the risk of unauthorized disclosure of personal data. There is a tendency among users of private and work address of mobile devices in a similar way insecure. Data access via smart phones work has a clear commercial advantage, but when the data controller insists on encryption and passwords, which may meet resistance from users. The data controller decides how the data will be processed either internally or outsourced. The implementation of secure laptops, smart phones and memory sticks has a cost, but for the first time the government has a figure to compare the cost of implementation against the cost of the authority of the unauthorized disclosure of data. The effect of fines has been to accelerate the movement towards greater personal data security. For most governments, the way forward to improve safety is through proven methods of greater awareness of the value of user data of the process through training and increased security of electronic devices. But in an age of budget savings, training budgets are reduced and the effort to rationalize the purchase of expensive equipment is leading the review of more economical solutions. These solutions can provide economic security necessary?Local Government And Elearning - News

The Localism Bill and other recent e-learning shared
Recent weeks have been busier than ever for people to create beautiful dynamic content that keep our course catalog wonderful, taking the fruits of our customers and instructional designers' work and presentation of these fruits in the beautifully woven basket that is learning catalog.
Hence, these sweet fruits can be plucked and eaten by all members of the Learning Community Pool are all based Authoring Tool and are available to modify, rename or rearrange completely that our customers feel good.
First, our internal team of instructional design oversaw the production of two new construction training pool faster.
The first is a London version of our ever popular Introduction to the module local government. This piece of e-learning is designed to give the participant an overview of the purpose of local government in the capital, how it works, which involves and how it happened.
It was also recently updated to reflect changes in government structure in London that have recently come into force.
Second, we added a module easily diverted by focusing on the bill of Localism in December 2010.
This module examines each of the proposals of the bill, designed to evade the power to headquarters and to local people. We also step through the process by which the bill could become law and the Content Development team felt this module to be particularly useful and relevant to all in local government right now.
The last few weeks seem to have been a particularly good creative people in Braintree Council. They shared three modules in our catalog covering the following topics:
Manual handling of conflict management and Microsoft Outlook 2003The latter provides an entry-level guide for those who might not be as proficient with the package.
The team particularly welcomes good content, modules covering the original subject that is not otherwise represented in the catalog of learning - and therefore the last few weeks have seen them falling over themselves in sheer, unbridled ecstasy!
It is through shared modules Huntingdonshire Cambridgeshire and intranet file management using MS SharePoint and caregivers of youth outreach, respectively.
The first will be useful to those who are currently members of the community based on their SharePoint intranet or are considering adopting the software, and it is an excellent value module which aims to enhance understanding of services available for professionals, families and young carers locally and nationally.
