Group Claims Judgment Day Near

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The nonprofit Family Radio is predicting Judgment Day will come May 21, 2011.

The group, based out of Oakland, is spreading the message that the end of the world is near by passing out fliers and spending millions on billboards around the country.

Santos Rolon is associated with Family Radio. For the past three years, he has devoted his life to spreading the message about Judgment Day.

"I believe there is going to be a massive earthquake," Rolon said. "People will be disappearing."

Rolon said those people disappearing will be believers ascending into heaven.

"The people left on planet earth, they are going to experience the wrath of God," Rolon said.

Rolon said he believes the entire earth will be destroyed.

Some questioned Rolon's message.

"This is kind of mentally crazy," Rollan Shafer said.

Harold Camping, the president of Family Radio, used his interpretation of certain scriptures and a mathematical formula to decide Judgment Day would fall on May 21.

Camping made a similar prediction in the 1990s.

"This type of thing has happened throughout world history and biblical history," said Pastor David Harris, with Bayside Church in Granite Bay. "No one knows except the father in heaven."

Harris said people should worry about how they are living their lives each day not when the world will end.

While Rolon refused to even consider that he might be wrong about Judgment Day, Harris said pastors and counselors will be available at Bayside on both Saturday and Sunday to talk with people who may have questions about the prediction or who may be disappointed come Sunday.

In California, Rolon said Judgment Day is predicted to occur at 6 p.m. Saturday.

However, Family Radio also predicts the U.S. will hear of the rapture as early as Friday, because of time differences around the world.

SERIOUSLY?: Letter to Bayside Church in Granite Bay, California ...

Hi. I called you 3 times last summer and left three lengthy messages about a situation I needed help with. Finally, after the third call, I got a call back from one of your “pastors”. I am certain I only got a call back because my messages were becoming more urgent, not to the tune of “Wow. Someone really needs our help. We are a “Christian” church and we are supposed to “help” people”, but more like, “Wow This lady says she is an atheist and is growing more and more staunch in her irreverence every day because, as she said on her message, she knows at least FIVE obvious hypocrites that attend our church AND we haven’t called her back yet so she is getting close to exposing our church for what it REALLY is…a big fucking mega church of bullshit where people are big fucking idiots and give us all their money, think they're saved, and raise their kids to be fucking idiots and assholes just like their parents, not to mention hypocrites, too”. Well, they did not want to be “exposed”, like so many other mega churches, and even small churches, of churches past for their RIDICULOUSNESS, so one of the 200 pastors called me back. When he did, I explained my situation. There is a little girl I know that attends your church and youth groups whose family is in trouble. I went on to tell him that she has been going there, sometimes with the rest of her family, for a year or so now, mainly to the Friday night “session” of Jesus. She is only 12 and her mother died 8 months ago from breast cancer very young, died a “troubled” death (meaning not at peace—I’ll explain in another post) and left 5 children, all 12 and under, youngest is 4, and I felt that the dad is really struggling and I see doom in the future. They really need some help and I had done all I could. I also told him that since they are a “Christian church” with a whole lot of money, ‘cuz people feel good there so they give money cuz then they will go to heaven even though they are completely dishonest and have no real values and morals, that they should definitely help this family who is in dire need of emotional, not as much financial, but EMOTIONAL (AND THAT IS FREE) support. How hard could that be? I explained the story. Gave them names.
