» In classic "Dewey Defeats Truman" form, Monday's Miami Herald had a full-page Macy's ad for official Heat championship merchandise. Oops.
» All of that gear soon might be headed abroad to those in need, who might already have merchandise incorrectly proclaiming the Steelers champions of Super Bowl XLV.
» The Heat arguably had more talent, but the Mavericks had "brains and guts," according to their coach, Rick Carlisle. Those traits plus a heaping helping of Dirk Nowitzki proved to be more valuable than the "Big Three."
» Mavericks guard Jason Kidd won his first NBA title in his 17th season in the league. Some might remember his appearance in Stockton in 1989, when Kidd was a high school freshman at St. Joseph Notre Dame of Alameda. Kidd scored 15 points in the Pilots' 62-58 win over previously unbeaten St. Mary's in a NorCal playoff game before a standing-room-only crowd at Spanos Center.
» The Dodgers need to "Think Green." The cash-strapped franchise owes Manny Ramirez $8.33 million in deferred compensation by June 30. Team owner Frank McCourt barely met payroll on June 1. He's expected to ask a judge on June 22 to approve a multi-billion TV contract extension with Fox. Without it, McCourt might have to sell the team.
» Sports agent Drew Rosenhaus kept finding work for Terrell Owens, a client of his. But with Terrelle Pryor, the former Ohio State quarterback, Rosenhaus really has his work cut out for him. ESPN analyst Chris Mortensen tweeted Monday that Pryor's highest grade among NFL general managers for the NFL Supplemental Draft, if there is one, is "maybe a 4th rounder, if that." One GM's response was, "If I only watched the Wisconsin game, I wouldn't give draftable grade."

On Sunday, the Golden Bears punched their tickets for the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., their first appearance there since 1959.
